Organ Donation

News

Organ Donation in Nebraska

Organ donations save lives. Many people in Nebraska are waiting for organ transplants, and one donor can help several patients in need.

What Is Organ Donation?

Organ donation is the process of giving healthy organs or tissue to someone whose organs are no longer functioning. Organs that can be donated include the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, and pancreas. Tissue donations can also help improve lives.

Why Register as a Donor?

  • A single donor can save up to eight lives
  • Donation only happens after all life-saving care has been given
  • There is no age limit for registering
  • Most religions support organ donation
  • Registering makes your wishes clear and helps your family during a difficult time.

How to Register in Nebraska

Registering is quick and easy. You can:

  • Sign up when renewing your Nebraska driver’s license or ID
  • Register online through the Nebraska Organ and Tissue Donor Registry
  • Be sure to tell your family about your decision.

Important to Know

  • Doctors always work to save your life first
  • Medical professionals decide if organs can be donated at the time of donation
  • There is no cost to donors or their families

Make a Difference

Choosing to be an organ donor is a simple way to help others. Your decision can save lives and provide hope to families across Nebraska.
